Recession discharge from compartmentalized bedrock hillslopes

چکیده
Abstract. We used numerical modelling to explore the role of vertical compartmentalization hillslopes on groundwater flow and recession discharge. found that, when hydraulic properties are vertically compartmentalized, streamflow behaviour may strongly deviate from what is predicted by theory that considers drainage shallow reservoirs with homogeneous properties. further identified hillslope configurations for which derived Boussinesq solution approximately holds and, conversely, those it does not. By comparing modelled discharge Q table dynamics, we critical hydrogeological conditions controlling emergence strong deviations. The three main controls (i) contribution a deep aquifer connected stream, (ii) heterogeneity in properties, (iii) slope interface between permeable compartment bedrock one lower Our results confirm correct physical interpretation exponent b classical equation -dQ/dt=aQb, its temporal progression, requires knowledge structural configuration aquifer.

متن کاملQuantifying climatic and tectonic controls on hillslopes
Hillslopes in humid regions are typically convex to concave in profi le and have a relatively thick, continuous regolith cover. Conversely, hillslopes in arid regions are typically cliff-dominated and have a relatively thin, discontinuous regolith cover. The difference between these two end-member slope forms is classically attributed to climate, but climate, tectonics, and lithology all play a...
